With it being Valentine’s day once again and the social sphere flooded with pictures of cute meals, Tesco roses, and captions that read like Beach Boys lyrics. This year the team are taking a stand, and have collated their favourite (or rather, not favourite) break up anthems! With features from future and previous acts, golden oldies and b-sides that will have you missing people you’ve not even met yet.
Back in 2016 the magical yet melancholy superpower that is Father John Misty graced the stage with his tongue-in-cheek view of the world, love and relationships. It was an amazing night and it’s no wonder that FJM has made a feature on this Anti-Valentines playlist.
The perfect break-up playlist doesn’t just consist of sad songs about love, it needs to feature absolute independent, soul-freeing bangers, and who else to remind us all that we WILL survive than Queen of the dance floor, Gloria Gaynor. Zofia is one of our top bevvie slingers and she’s popped this classic into the mix! Gaynor was honoured at last year’s La Discotheque with a celebration of the first lady of Disco, and it was as glorious as one can imagine.
In a complete U from Gloria, Jenny M picked Please Please Please by The Smiths. The Smiths prove that breakups might seem horrible at the time, but as time goes on, and *certain* people change, you usually look back and realise it was for the best. Johnny Marr has gone on to sell out The Hall multiple times and is always a crowd favourite – we hope to see him back soon!
