Today we bring the third part of our homage to Independent Venue Week with Yasmin Coe, a Northern singer/songwriter who infuses shoegaze and indie-pop into her work, creating a distinct sound and her own unique brand.

The importance of IVW is imperative to sustaining music and culture throughout the UK, it gives venues like Albert Hall the opportunity to recognise the vital role smaller venues play to the audiences and artists that come into our hall. From giving artists a chance to play their first gig or aspiring event managers promoting their first event – smaller music venues are the backbone of the UK arts network.

Coe is designing a new music evolution in her work, her low vocal register accompanied by driving drums and energetic guitar riffs from her band, creates a dark but ethereal soundscape in her work. More recently, she released her EP The Most I Could Do which has picked up momentum in Manchester’s Indie scene. Here, she tells us her favourite independent venues in Manchester and how they have contributed to her career so far!

‘Gullivers and The Castle Hotel have always had a special place in my heart for their intimacy, and for the fact they were where I played someone my first shows!

Fuel Cafe will always be a beautiful spot and the heart of a community. I have played so many wonderful shows here.

Albert Hall has hosted some of my favourite gigs, let alone how much I love the stunning interior *chefs kiss* one day I will own that stage!

I seem to play all the time at YES and it holds some special memories from headlines to supports and I’ve seen some great up and coming bands there

The Rat And Pigeon is one of my favourite new venues, it’s incredible to see a new space on the scene making such a wave!’

Yasmin performed at The Rat And Pigeon on Tuesday 28th for Independent Venue Week, if you missed it you can check out some of her performances below!
