ARTIST CURATED PLAYLIST: Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

Published Category Playlist

aussie 5-piece psychedelic porn crumpets are returning to Manchester, bringing their sprawling, exploratory, psych-pop, prog rock and heavy garage rifts to our stage! We're passing them the mic to find out which tracks soundtrack their time on the road

Being a part of a rock band requires lengthy amounts of time on the road, especially when you’re travelling to the other side of the world. As such, a soundtrack is needed to guide their patience and keep them entertained. Ahead of their high-anticipated return to Manchester for a headline show at our venue, we spoke to Psychedelic Porn Crumpets to find out which tracks define the road for them:

“Being the road dogs that we are, spending so much time as a band on the bitumen, it does seem fitting and justifiable to put together a driving playlist for all of your speedy soundtrack needs…”

One Hundred Bats – Unknown Mortal Orchestra

“So much a tip of the hat to vintage, fuzzed-out ear candy and sabbath undertones. Still getting lost in last year’s EP from UMO, nothing tastier than Ruban’s guitar tones”

Psst… UMO are soon taking to our stage themselves!

Bees – Caribou

“I picture Dan on some rural Canadian highway, Convertible, top-down, black wayfarers, lit ciggie…class. This track and an open road go together like rubber and asphalt.”

Slow Learner – Viagra Boys

“Many legs of the tour drives are soundtracked by some VB (long necks) and it just undeniably gets you in the zone. Keep coming back to this 2018 album but had this track as a constant repeater last tour. Gone in 60 seconds, a need for speed fast & furious, pure (vin) diesel.”

Billy Toppy – Men I Trust

This one makes you want to be behind the wheel, absolutely cruising with the window down. Some of the best bass tones from this group, inspiring production for sure, but slaps just as hard live. When the Crumpet chariot rolled up to Desert Daze in ‘22, we were lucky enough to catch their set in time to feel it.”

Do I Have To Tick Your Tock? – Nolan Potter

“To answer Nolan, he doesn’t, but he may as well, bloke can do just about anything. We love Nolan and to stick an album of his on in the van is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Hard to pick just one song, but here you go!”

Pretty Green – White Denim

“Oldie but a goodie. Huge WD fans and there’s so much music and stylings to sink in to, love all of it. This one fits the bill for a driving playlist IMO.”

Black Sheep Blues – The Love Junkies

“Local Perth band from our formative years, this track has the fattest fuzzed-out drop in existence haha a pedal down moment? Ya know that emoji where there’s steaming from the nose? it’s this track inspired.”

Goin’ Out West – Queens of the Stone Age

“Desert drivin’ duty? Josh does a great Tom Waits, but also just think his sound and swagger in general does this track justice. BadAss.”

Super Charger Heaven – Rob Zombie

“Crusty Demons. that is all I have to say.

(Brap braap)”

The Dream – Thee Oh Sees

“Pillars of the Fast & the Fuzzy franchise, Dwyer can do no wrong. This one’s an oldie from the crew but still poignant for some furious road rage, if you’re into that type of thing.”

Reaper Invert – Wand

“Some garage to take out of the garage?

Privy to CRANK “Golem” if i’m in either of the front seats, meant to be played loud, actually seems rude not to. Again, hard to pick one track from this album for the playlist but this is a righteous build all the way through to that searing lead…woof.”

Whatever your preference, there’s truly something for everyone here!

They make their way to our stage in just a week’s time, and they bring with them some stellar support in the form of Bristol-based trio Waldo’s Gift, known for blending experimental jazz, math-rock and electronic influences, and Manchester’s own new-wave punk rockers Martial Arts.
