Almost 50 years since they took to a Manchester stage for the first time over in Hulme at Tony Wilson’s original Factory, and 30 years since they took to the stage in Heaton Park for Cities In The Park, the pioneers of industrial funk are heading to our venue for a special headline show which will feature the full band, honoring the late Richard H Kirk.
Debuting in Sheffield in the early 70s, the band set out to make “music without musical instruments”, experimenting with tape loops and custom-built oscillators, truly testing the bounds of where music and technology intersect. Early demo tapes led to live performances, though their earlier stints on-stage were more art piece than concert.
The production of their own recording studio led the band to make a name for themselves, establishing their identity on Rough Trade Records. We’re diving into the timeline of how Manchester served the band throughout their career, and how this love affair will all wrap up this October…
